2023 Southwest Texas Beef Cattle Kick-Off
The Southwest Texas Beef Cattle Kick-Off hosted by Frio, La Salle, Medina, Zavala, Bandera, Dimmit, Kerr, and Uvalde counties was a great success! We would like to thank our Extension Specialists Dr. Josh McGinty, Dr. Karl Harborth, Dr. Megan Clayton, and Dr. Yuri Calil for delivering great impactful presentations to local and surrounding beef cattle producers. Attendees were educated on beef cattle topics that included pasture management, nutrition/BCS, stocking rates, and a beef cattle market outlook. Attendees also enjoyed a cooking demo conducted by FCH Agent Sara Nicholson. 2023 Multi-County Insect & Turf Grass Management Workshop
Multi-County Insect & Turf Grass Management Workshop was held on Thursday, July 27, 2023. This event was hosted by the Extension offices of Atascosa, Frio, and Wilson counties. Attendees and producers were educated on topics by Bob Ducote (Envu), Noel Troxclair (CEA- Uvalde), Manuel Chavarria (Extension Turf Grass Specialist), and Young-Ki Jo (Extension Specialist) which included disease management, insect control, nematode & root rot, varieties updates, and weed management followed by a field tour. Texas Beef Quality Assurance Training – Frio County. Attendees were educated on BQA topics which included Residue Avoidance, Vaccine Handling, Proper Injection Technique, Genetic Selection, Environmental Stewardship, and Cattle Handling & Welfare.
